100 Floors of Terror

My experience with Tomb of Titans and some tips

So Tomb of Titans is live and is proving quite the challenge1. I imagine Kabam will nerf it a buit in the next update – making the onboarding nicer so it doesn’t go from terror 30 (which was balanced around t12/t13) to tomb 1 (balanced around t16) with more affixes. Like gently ease people in you know not just go “hola prepare for a very unhappy time.”

I did as well as I expected to and this was after Kabam buffed it again from the preview post and figured I’d share what worked for me and things you should be aware of:

World 1st floor 100 clear :D

Reaper

I called this mod out in the preview guide and it has proven to be just as much as a threat on the live server as well. As a reminder, Reaper is +300% crit chance, +250% crit damage, -10% hero health, and -10 regen.

Or, a real ouchy time. If you see this mod paired with anything that either helps the enemy attacks land or are stronger what you’ll see is the enemy tear through your squishier heroes, as noted by how much floor 2 was a block for a lot of players.

You do not want to be sending fragile heroes against it *unless* you are confident you can burst it down really really quick (spoiler: not possible most of the time once you get into the lower floors.)

Aegis

On the other hand Aegis is basically a freebie when you see it. It was nerfed from the preview post and now only increases the barrier by 10%, meaning you can largely ignore this a lot of the time. Which is nice of Kabam to provide that for us.

Adamantine Skin

Adamantine Skin is a massive “no you don’t” for any crit-based heroes. It reduces your hero chance to crit by 70% as well as lowering hero attack by 20%, meaning any crit hero is basically not having a lovely time against this modifier. Counter it with flat damage heroes who don’t care about not having crits.

Survival Skills

Survival skills of course are the best way to fix any fragility problems. I know we’ve had a fairly relaxed few years where you could arguably ignore them if you weren’t pursuing 100% clear rates on huge/legendary minibosses (or were decking your heroes in full legendary) but Terror Tomb is built to destroy the hero who decided they didn’t need them.

Skills such as Thick Skin/Extra Plating, Glancing Blows/Cloak & Dagger, Sturdy/Impervious can all make a big difference in whether you make it across the finish line or not. Yes it’s not flashy but victory I would argue is significantly more important.

Do not overlook the value of hybrid atk/survival skills either. Some major ones being Perfect Form, Battering Blows and Dance of Blades – great for keeping your hero up whilst also adding to its damage output.

Gear Choices

Alongside survival skills we also have gear options. Aiming to pick up gear that has survival secondary stats such as health or evasion will also give you a massive edge in the tomb.

Now if you’re super attached to your crit builds and you can’t bear to roll survival then gearing is how you help offset that. To give you an example, this is the skillset for an Astramancer I used on some floors on the way to 100:

The thing that kept him alive was using survival gear for his equipment, instead of the glass cannon setup used by the leaderboard. If we look at the setup used on our best-in-slot page:

You can see it is oriented around keeping you alive more than it is for damage output as that has proven both in simulations and live testing to be the best way to build a hero.

My Astramancer that I linked uses a very similar set of gear to that (I prefer Eclipse Wand for the health secondary over Darkensmog but that’s for my specific use case) and he had over 3k hp/10k def which was enough to keep him alive when he was needed.

Our best-in-slot page can be found here. Nearly all of my heroes were running either copies of it or close to.

Tomb Spirit

This is more for if you’re wanting to go very deep (not needed for the earlier floors) but the new Tomb Spirit is incredibly useful inside there. You ideally want to enchant it on what I’ll call the high value targets – weapons, spells, and idols. Idols get it because it has double the effect on them, and you choose weapons/spells otherwise as they get the most damage boost from it.

Note this spirit does not do anything outside of Tomb so decide carefully if you want to put it on an item. Either be prepared to remove it later, or have a second copy of the item, or be ready to embrace it just knowing it’s a bit ick.

As of update 26.7 the spirit now has an effect outside of tomb, albeit at a weaker amount.

Champions

Whilst Ashley is the best champion to use in there most of the time due to every enemy being classed as a boss, do not overlook the boosts Bjorn and Yami offer (Yami allowing you to counter the evasion penalty.)

And also don’t be afraid to experiment using none of them. Some of my higher floors I cleared without a champion as I had a better success rate that way (on accounts of champions being squishy they can be a detriment later on.)

Example Heroes

Putting that information together, here are some examples of the heroes I used a lot on my way through Tomb. Choose whatever quality you can afford – I’ve made these images using normal quality, just note the deeper floors expect/are balanced on higher quality (you will eventually run into a stat wall.)

I should really update his potion at some point
The blank spots are Avatar of Magic
Ideally would be anti-magic net in S1 but he’s been a dick about rolling it. Missing image is Avatar of Magic.
I’m aware the idol needs upgrading :P and boots changing but low priority
Missing images are Precursor’s Ultimatum and Avatar of Magic
Fun fact: This Astramancer was the first hero to ever be souled. I was the first person to ever clear a tower when they released way back in 2020 and my soul went on him.

Is it worth it though?

I’ll level with you even after the buffs they added since my last post the loot is still kinda bad in there. Like it’s nice you can get dragonmarks and cannonballs and stuff but for how much work you put in, whether that’s with getting the right skills or earning the gems for high quality gear required for deep floors I don’t think it is, but hey if you find it fun I’m happy for you.

I only managed to beat a single level, lol. But I got a legendary tomb spirit. For me, it is not worth the time. Maybe later when I buff my heroes a bit.

Great write up as usual Reiga, thanks! I looked for items I had starforged and made a few dupes that I enchanted with tomb enchantments. Definitely makes a difference, but worth the effort to do wholesale? Not imo. Tweaking my squishy toons for survivability is a good thing so I will start there. Thankfully I have a load of power boosters helping me through levels.

Thanks for the right up, would be nice to see a break down on loot drops, also if doing tower on different difficulty how it effects bosses and loot. But for End game it a nice addition to End game content. I only been able to make it 10 floors so far, but that more due to quest timing of saved teams questing for keys then difficulty of the floors. Free Cannon balls, extra shards ect. are always welcome. With tomb being available as long as tower is. Outside of gear swaps or enchanted gear only good for tomb, I think it’s a great addition, at least for now.

Hey y’all! I’m new to the game and I can’t find the currently ongoing event. Can anybody where to find the event? I am level 16. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it.

Hi there!
You’re currently too low a level to see it – you have to first clear the Tower of Titans on a difficulty higher than Alpha which currently isn’t available to you. If you keep levelling up you should see it appear just after the start of next month.

Just curious, how is your pathfinder 99% evasion with that setup? My maths may be bad. Meanwhile thank you for this enlightening and brilliant article, you are a genius!
