Collection Cards

Gotta collect em all

Disclaimer: There wasn’t a preview build for update 20.0 due to technical issues but we did have a chance to do a Q&A with Kabam Richard. The information and images in this post is from that.

Introduction

Collection Cards are a feature added in update 20.0 that give players a new thing to go out and collect. This mechanic unlocks once you reach merchant level 49 (though if you acquire a pack before then the mechanic will automatically unlock so you can use it.)

Acting as an expansion for the collection book, collection cards give you buffs to your gameplay. Bringing up the collection book you can see we have a new button now:

Which also comes with a quick tutorial/explanation about them:

And then we get to the collection stats page which is very similar to the one we’re already used to:

We’ll first cover the different card mechanics and then move onto explaining how to acquire them.

Card Categories

As you can see from the collection book image the cards are split up into categories depending on what NPC they’re for. For the champion, worker/premium workers, and resource workers the card effects are more or less the same for all of them. If we look for example at some of the worker cards here:

You can see it’s the same thing each time, just a different blueprint line.
Rei Note: This may not apply to the Master – that’s something we’ll all find out together on release.

The same holds true for the champions and resource workers as well, here’s an example of a resource worker:

Now this does not hold true for the city worker category – they have varied effects unique to each one of them. We know that for example the Elder Owen card will give +2 furniture capacity, and, more importantly, look at the Oscar card:

He’s finally getting upgraded! :D

Card Progression

Each card comes in 3 different qualities – the quality only affects how much xp it gives, you don’t need to collect all the different qualities to unlock effects:

Common Quality: 1 xp
Rare Quality: 5 xp
Mythic Quality: 10 xp

This xp is used for a progression mechanic where as you acquire more copies of a specific card you gain xp for it and after a certain amount of xp earnt they upgrade in effect. Not every card has upgrades – looking at Oscar for example you can see he only has 1 level.

For cards that have 3 levels (so workers/premium workers, resource workers, champions etc) the progression is:

Level 1: 0 (literally just draw a copy of the card, so I guess you could argue 1 xp?)
Level 2: 50 xp
Level 3: 250 xp

For the single effect cards (so things like Oscar, Owen) it’s:

Level 1: n/a
Level 2: 200 xp
Level 3: n/a

So for single effect cards they will not activate until you have reached level 2 – can’t get away with just drawing a single copy of them.

Card Acquistiion

Cards are acquired by opening card packs – each pack contains 5 cards:

This is the standard collection card pack. These will be given out through events as the main source of acquisition according to the update post. You can also gem purchase this type of card pack at any time for 100 gems.

You can see above the odds for what you’ll get when opening a pack, with Mythic being understandably fairly rare there at 1%. Most npc’s cards will follow those odds and to the best of our knowledge they are all equally weighted.

I say most npc’s because there are some exceptions. The Chase Card odds refer to what we can consider the powerful cards – the ones which have the really cool effects. These have a much lower chance to be drawn. Here is a list of the chase cards:

Alternative title: “Good luck drawing that!”

There are 2 other types of card packs as well – rare card packs and mythic card packs:

Which you can see have high/guaranteed odds for rare and mythic cards. These types of packs cannot be purchased for gems – they will be given out as rewards for stuff like content passes.

Card Q&A

This section covers the misc card stuff we learnt which didn’t really fit anywhere else

Q: What happens when you max a card out with regards to drawing more copies of it?
A: You can still draw them.

Q: Can you draw premium worker cards without owning the worker?
A: Yes.

Q: Any chance there’s a way to guarantee a specific worker card?
A: No.

Q: Will we be able to sell cards on the market?
A: No.
Rei Note: Then why call it “Shop Titans goes TCG” on the website if you can’t trade them Kabam?

Q: What tier is the new artifact?
A: Tier 9, it’s a minor artifact.
Rei Note: Hey they remembered that category exists.

Q: What effect does it have?
A: Adds a percentage of your Card Collection score to its value.
Rei Note: perecentage unknown, balancing still happening.

And that about covers it. Apologies that this article isn’t as detailed as we normally do but as mentioned in the disclaimer we didn’t have a preview build so doing the best I can with what I have. Go forth and collect them all!

They have the same draw stats outside of that tiny green text. Rare pack has one card guaranteed to be either rare (97% chance) or mythic (3% chance), whereas the mythic pack is 100% chance for 1 card to be mythic.

considering how low the odds are to get mythic cards (especially the ones for powerful effects) only 10 xp per mythic card feels criminal, should at least be 20-25 xp
