From a crafting perspective
Oh hey it’s yet another metal craft. Sadly the Materia Blade lacks any milestones that reduce its essence cost – instead we have 1 mastery and 1 ascension milestone that each lower the deep pearl cost by 3. Yay. How lovely.
Rei note: In my opinion I don’t think pack prints should have 2 milestones that both reduce the same component. Given people are paying for these keep that combined to 1 milestone and give it a resource reduction one or something still.
From a meta perspective
The Materia Blade is a fine T14 sword and will have some decent uses. Whilst of course we must acknowledge that Kiku-Ichimonji exists not every situation will call for it – for example you’d not use kiku on a Sensei unless you wanted a very sad Sensei (and same applies to Conquistador.)
It also has some merit for the tank classes that aren’t Daimyo and are already using an artifact in their loadout (like the wonderful Rock Stompers.)

Sadly the Materia Blade Mini Buster lacks any milestones that reduce its essence cost though this time we have an extra resource reduction node (well, “extra” cause it’s occupying the essence reduction slot so it’s still ick but not quite as ick as minus 3 bloody deep pearls.)
From a Meta perspective
Yeah no. Pretty much loses to the Wyrmbane Cannon in every scenario with a possible exception of on a Warden who is using Armor of Invincibility, though even then there’s a case for running Ironclad Grapple over this.
Flooring/Wallpaper
Summary
- Metal for days.
- Probably the closest we’ll ever get to a FF crossover.
- A new pretty solid sword with a fairly lackluster gun.
- Where’s our Praetorian pack Kabam?
