Traversing the Tomb

Exploring the depths below the Tower of Titans

Obligatory Legal Notice: As part of the Kabam Creator Program I was given access to a preview build of the update before it went live which is where the below images were taken.

The pictures shown were obtained from an early build, not indicative of the release version, and subject to change.

This is getting its own post so it can double up as a longer term guide for Tomb (will swap the pictures out for live ones once available so we can drop the beta disclaimer.)

I will be using Terror Tomb of Titans for this post – lower difficulties will have fewer modifiers and no barriers (or weaker ones) and less exciting loot.

Introduction

Tomb of Titans is a new feature added in update 26.6 and is the new “endgame” as such for your heroes. To unlock the tomb each month you must first clear the Tower of Titans on any difficulty except Alpha, after which you’ll be able to tackle the tomb for that difficulty.

Let’s take a look at what awaits us:

So apart from the cool looking graphics we can see a few things of note here.

Firstly, every single floor in Terror Tomb will have an elemental barrier. The barrier has 350 strength normally and can be of any element except gold cause as funny as that would have been it’d have also been an impossible floor except for spellknights.

Each floor will also have 5 modifiers on terror difficulty and you may notice some there that you’ve not seen before – this update also adds some new modifiers that can appear in both tomb and the terror tower itself. I’ll cover the new ones later, just know some of them are incredibly hard (and one of them felt like it was made specifically to counter the enduring quartorians.)

Finally there’s also the tomb curse. If we tap on the little i symbol we can get some details about what the curse actually is:

Tomb’s Curse

The Tomb Curse is a buff to the enemy’s stats and these will increase for every floor that you clear, acting as a mechanism which goes “okay you’ve had enough fun, get better and try again next time.”

Health and Attack are rather self-explanatory in which stats they buff. Defence isn’t the enemy’s defence in terms of the damage you do but instead refers to the defence stat used for defence cap calculations – basically the further you go the higher the defence needed to mitigate the enemy’s attack (which also means the damage of the enemy scales in 2 ways, both in its raw attack value and how much defence you need to not get rekt by it.)

Giving some quick examples of how it scales, this is what the Tomb Curse looks like at floor 10:

And at floor 25:

And then finally at floor 50:

So a scaling curse to act as a blocker, along with fun new modifiers and having 5 modifiers per floor provide the infinite challenge for endgame heroes, seeing how far we can push ourselves every month in return for bragging rights and loot.

Modifiers

With each floor having 5 modifiers the boss is able to roll some incredibly spicy combos to put your heroes to the test. As I mentioned there are now some new modifiers which you can look forward to seeing alongside the usual ones:

ModifierDescription
AdamantineVery less likely to receive Critical Hits and takes less damage
(note: text was broken in beta, deferring to the other types in its family)
AegisIncreased Elemental Barrier.
ImmortalHas an incredible amount of HP.
LightspeedFirst attack deals triple damage and is very likely to be a Critical Hit.
NecroticReduces Health and prevents Healing.
PrimordialColossal bonuses to all stats.
ReaperFar stronger and unleashes Critical Hits frequently.
Titan-SizedExtremely likely to use group attacks. They’re devastating, too.

Reaper from what I’ve experienced is basically the hardest modifier – it gets very painful very quickly as shown here:

First attack at start of battle. Ouch.

This is a list of every modifier you can find in both Tower and Tomb and what effects they have on your party or the boss:

Loot

Let’s take a look at the loot now for Tomb and see what rewards await for surviving all these boss modifiers:

That’s the Tomb spirit, more on that shortly
And that’s the tomb-bound key, more on that shortly as well

Wyrmbane Cannonballs now being potentially obtainable without having to pay $$$ outside of the occasional webstore giveaway or content pass reward is pretty cool.

Now I use the word potentially because the loot works kind of similar to how flash quests work – there are pools of loot for the game to use. Whilst the rewards will always contain 1 item from certain pools, others are rolled when you defeat the boss and it decides if you’re getting anything from that pool or getting nothing. An example of the game not being nice would be this:

For those of you who are interested in the contents of those pools let me channel my inner Yuki real quick:

Accordion block go! Reveal the loot pools!

Pool 1

Tomb-bound Key

Pool 2 (guaranteed)

Common Gear, Tomb Spirit, Wyrmbane Cannonballs, Repair Kits, Phoenix Feathers and Limited Edition Tokens

Pool 3 (guaranteed)

Timewarped Components

Pool 4

Common Gear, Flawless Gear, Epic Gear, Flawless Tomb Spirit, Epic Tomb Spirit, or Legendary Tomb Spirit

Pool 5

x50 Research Scrolls, x50 Ascension Shards, x50 Dragonmarks, x1 Prehistoric Key, x1 Otherworldly Key, x1 Platinum Key

Royal Merchant doesn’t have its own pool but instead can pick from some of the options dropped in the other pools.

On a loot related sidenote, Polonia steals T13-T14 inside the tomb on terror difficulty, meaning it’ll be T14-T15 if you use the talent.

Tomb-Bound chest and keys

Let’s talk about Tomb-Bound keys now. These keys can only drop on Terror difficulty and are used to open the brand new Tomb-Bound chest which, unlike other chests, cannot be opened with gems and so you must use the keys.

The chance to obtain a key increases the deeper you travel into the tomb. Showing a couple of examples here:

At floor 1 we have a 6% chance of obtaining a key.

At floor 25 we’ve gone up to a 20.5% chance.

And at floor 51 we’re at 50%. This is as high as the chance goes (used to go higher but that got nerfed because of what I was doing, my bad.)

Obtaining the chest is significantly easier – it works exactly like artifact chests in that you already have an infinite amount of them. I’m unsure exactly what merchant level they appear at but if I were to guess I’d go with the same level that Epsilon and Terror unlock so merchant level 67.

Taking a look at what we can expect from the chest (and there will be some blueprints available in there on launch they just weren’t enabled for the beta:

Look ma, no gem button!

Literally just opened those so that’s about as fair as an example for random as we’re getting.

Tomb-Bound Spirit

Good news everyone – tier 16 enchants are here!
Bad news everyone – it’s just a single spirit which cannot be crafted but is instead found in the tombs.

The Tomb-Bound Spirit is a Tier 16 enchant which, well, is primarily designed for the tombs as the name implies although it also serves a secondary purpose – due to the stats it adds to an item (200 ATK/133 DEF/40 HP) it’s also best-in-slot for enchanting items for donating during Dragon Invasion if they don’t have a T14 spirit affinity.

Moving on to what it’s actually meant to be used for:

So this is a pretty cool spirit and I’m quite happy with what it does – the 50% stat gain is noticeable in tomb (only applies to attack, defence and health of an item) and the effect is doubled on totems meaning a tomb-enchanted totem gives double stats in there.

The downside being of course that it doesn’t do anything outside of there (well, except the raw stat the enchant itself gives) which means if you just have the one set of gear for a hero you’re going to potentially be compromising your success rate in other quests such as Meteor Zone or LCoG 13.

Obviously won’t be an issue for the Tomb-Bound blueprints as you’d be using this on them anyway which is perhaps the long term intent.

Epilogue

And that about covers it for the guide in terms of what you can expect in the Tomb of Titans and how it works. This post will be updated as needed in over time.

The 5th loot pool has been updated since I wrote this post – I have edited it accordingly

It’s possible they’re useful outside as well but if we get any weapon prints they will want tomb spirit for the tomb – it’s really good on them in terms of attack gained in there.
