Update 20.1 Overview

Your guide to the gameplay changes in 20.1

Obligatory Legal Notice: As part of the Kabam Creator Program we were given the chance to preview the update before it went live which is where the below images were taken.

NOTE: Some of the values shown in this post may be changed between this preview and the live update.

Introduction

Welcome to 20.1, home of the long awaited event difficulties, some major changes to the collection card system, new worker statues, and some quality of life adjustments. Let’s get started.

Event Difficulties

Yes it’s finally here, having been hinted/teased by Kabam for months guild events now have a difficulty selection feature. Easy and Medium are designed for newer and smaller guilds, Hard is approximately the same as events currently are and Extreme is for those looking for something a little more challenging (with cooler rewards.)

Guildmasters and officers can change the event difficulty for each event in the guild settings menu under the new events tab:

These can be changed at any time except when the event is live (so in the above picture the difficulty for KC cannot be changed as it was running at the time.)

The difficulties you can choose from are based on the level of your town hall:

  • Lvl 1 unlocks Easy.
  • Lvl 5 unlocks Medium.
  • Lvl 9 unlocks Hard.
  • Lvl 15 unlocks Extreme.

Below are the requirements to clear each event on the new extreme difficulty, including the bonus goals after the grand prize node – tap the arrows to move between them.

Rei Note: Kabam are aware there’s demand for even harder content than this so we may see a harder difficulty in the future, though with that being said expecting content that challenges like the top 20 event pushing guilds is wishful thinking. Same with asking for content that demands legendary current tier items on your heroes with perfect skill setups – spending dev time to make something only accessible/reached by a tiny fraction of the playerbase is not a great use of resources.

Lost City of Gold

The Lost City of Gold (so lost we’ve only found it 76 times at the time of this post) has received a few changes in this update:

  • The questing time was increased from 60 minutes to 90 minutes. The resting time has also been increased.
  • The amount of pure gold obtained from each quest was increased.
  • The chance for gear to break was reduced slightly.
  • The amount of quests required to unlock a keybearer has been reduced – you can unlock & clear all 12 (so including the new difficulty) keybearers in fewer quests than it used to take to unlock and clear 11.

The idea of the above changes was to make LCoG a slightly less intense event (in terms of activity required from the player) and a little less punishing on the repair front especially for non-RM players.

Difficulty 12 has also been added (well, readded given we had a 12 way back in the past before it got axed) which offers a slightly less jank drop table.

In terms of stats it sits slightly below Ancient Jungle Extreme (it’s classed as an extreme quest as well), though being able to take a 5th hero will help a lot.

The item drop tiers is quite a wide range – we saw items ranging from T10 to T14 dropping in there. Of note is that if you use the artifact takers talent it’s possible for it to drop up to 1-3 bangles instead of just a flat 1 (and LCoG lvl 11 was buffed to drop 1-2 bangles instead of just 1 as well.) To the best of my knowledge it’s an equal chance for any amount to drop so it depends entirely on how lucky you are.

Collection Card Changes

The collection card system that was added in 20.0 has received some changes based on player feedback.

  • The odds of drawing a chase card have been increased to 8.9% (each specific chase card has a 1.26% chance to be drawn.)
  • Chase Cards now have an effect at level 1 instead of requiring them to reach level 2 to do anything (except Zolea who already had 3 levels on her card.)
    • Their previous existing effect has also been buffed in some cases.
  • Whenever you obtain a duplicate card from a pack you now get card shards, which can be fused into more packs.
    • If you have fully levelled a card you’ll get more shards from any duplicates you draw of it. This bonus value is currently still being tweaked.

The amount of shards you get from a duplicate depends on the rarity of the card. A common duplicate will give you 1 shards, a rare duplicate will give you 3 shards and a mythic duplicate will give you 10 shards.

As for what you can do with the shards (apart from just looking at them in your inventory) you can fuse them along with a couple of moonstones into new packs to open and continue your addiction:
THIS FUSION TIME WILL BE INCREASED FOR THE LIVE LAUNCH. EXPECT IT TO TAKE 3 TIMES AS LONG.

This is a standard fusion not a full moon fusion so it’s accessible to all players at all times (presuming they have the shards of course.)

Rei Note: I don’t have a list of the level 1 chase card effects for you I’m afraid because the preview beta was a bit glitchy there – missing text strings, values, etc etc. It’ll be polished up before live, just explaining why we don’t have them.

Worker Statues

By popular demand the guild grab bags now contain even more worker statues (ignore Sondra he just wanted in on the picture):

Miscellaneous Changes

  • Champions can no longer request artifact blueprints which is great cause it really sucked when they asked for binder.
  • The Fortune Zone can now give up to T14 gear.
  • Items that cannot be donated to the airship should no longer be showing as having an airship value on their blueprint. Should help avoid some confusion that we’ve seen.

And that about covers it. Go forth and enjoy the events and the not quite as ick collection card system.

Is the event table you listed available for the other difficulties? I’m trying to determine if it would be better for my guild to stay with hard or move to a different difficulty level given our typical performance.

The table lists the rewards for Extreme difficulty events + 3 additional after the main reward. Rewards for other difficulties can be found on the game’s official website.
